At the Minnesota River Arts Fair recently, I shared a literary tent with a bunch of other authors, and had a chance to interview them briefly. I asked each of them the same five questions. Here's what mystery author Susan Koefod had to say! (By the way, Susan recently won a McKnight Artist Fellowship!)
1 – What’s your latest book about?
Burnt Out – the third in a series - is about
a woman who returns to her hometown and learns that the renter living at her
house is a world famous geologist – and he’s gone missing.
2 – Who’s your favorite author and/or
what’s your favorite book?
The Awakening by Kate Chopin. It’s set in Grand Isle,
Louisiana and has such a great moody atmosphere.
3 – What’s your favorite aspect of
writing?
Revision. Once you get the first draft out, then you have
something to work with.
4 – Any good anecdotes about being a
writer?
Getting lost in the imaginary world you are creating. Don't plan too much. Take that unexpected turn in fiction writing and follow where it leads you.
5 – What was the most helpful writing
advice you've ever received?
Taped on my computer is something I came across one
day; Get it done 10 minutes at a time. If you just sit down and tell yourself,
just write for ten minutes, then that almost always gets you in the mood and
you keep writing beyond those ten minutes.
