5 Questions with David T. Wilbanks

David Wilbanks is a fellow Minnesotan who has 1 - great taste in music (I mean come on - he's a Beatles fan!) 2 - great taste in literature (see answer to #2 below) and 3 - a great knack for horror. Do you really need anything else? Anyway, I'm excited to have Dave on board to answer my five questions!

1 – What’s your latest book about?

Dead Earth: Sanctuary is the third book in a series by Mark Justice and yours truly, and it’s about survival during a zombie apocalypse, only our zombie apocalypse has alien beasts, psychopaths and other fun stuff. The series doesn’t have to be read in order (though it couldn’t hurt), so feel free to start anywhere, readers.

2 – Who’s your favorite author and/or what’s your favorite book?

How about the guy who got me into reading all those years ago? Edgar Rice Burroughs. Why not? My favorite piece of fiction might be The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. Maybe The Exorcist by Blatty. Or Breakfast of Champions by Vonnegut, Crime and Punishment... I guess I don’t know.

3 – What’s your favorite aspect of writing?

My favorite aspect of writing is watching the story take over and form on the page.

4 – Any good anecdotes about being a writer?

I once talked to F. Paul Wilson during a convention, hoping he wouldn’t notice the stain from the chicken wing I had dropped on my crotch earlier. Of course he’s too much of a gentleman to say anything. I’ve never told anyone that story before. 

5 – What was the most helpful writing advice you’ve ever received?

I’ve read a lot of writing books and they all basically say the same thing. The best advice is probably to write every day, stick to a schedule and don’t make excuses not to write. Not that I always follow that advice but I should and have been lately. Stick to it, guys.
